BIG SKY Treatment offers two ways to access care. Our in-person programs — including Adult Outpatient, Adolescent Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, and our full Experiential Therapy Program (equine therapy, wilderness therapy, music, and art therapy) — are available at our Kalispell, Montana location. Our Virtual IOP serves both adults and adolescents and is available to residents of Montana, Colorado, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Massachusetts, including members of Indian Reservations in those states. Regardless of how you access care, you receive the same evidence-based clinical programming.

Outpatient treatment is a strong fit for individuals who have a stable home environment and are ready to engage in structured recovery while continuing to work, attend school, or care for family. It’s also the right next step after completing a higher level of care such as inpatient or residential treatment. At BIG SKY Treatment, we conduct an individual clinical assessment to determine whether in-person outpatient at our Kalispell location or Virtual IOP — available to both adults and adolescents across our service states — is the right fit for where you are in recovery.

Yes. BIG SKY Treatment is specifically designed for people who need to maintain their daily responsibilities during recovery. Our in-person programs in Kalispell are scheduled to fit around work, school, and family life, and our Virtual IOP gives residents across our service states the same flexibility without requiring travel.

Yes. BIG SKY Treatment specializes in dual diagnosis — treating substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. Treating both at once leads to significantly better long-term outcomes than addressing them separately. Dual diagnosis care is available through both our in-person Kalispell programs and our Virtual IOP.

Trauma-informed care is a clinical framework that recognizes trauma as a common underlying driver of both addiction and mental health disorders. At BIG SKY Treatment, being trauma-informed means every clinician is trained to recognize trauma responses, create an environment of safety, and address the experiences that shape addiction — not just the addiction itself. This approach is especially important for clients with PTSD, anxiety, depression, or histories of adverse childhood experiences, and is embedded across all our programs, in person and via Virtual IOP.

Yes. BIG SKY Treatment runs a dedicated Adolescent Outpatient Program for teens facing substance use, mental health challenges, or both. The program uses age-appropriate therapeutic approaches with structured family involvement throughout. Adolescent treatment is available in person at our Kalispell, Montana location and via Virtual IOP across our full service area.

Our Virtual IOP delivers the same evidence-based intensive outpatient programming as our in-person program through a secure telehealth platform. Both adult and adolescent programs are available remotely. Participants attend live scheduled sessions — typically several hours per day, multiple days per week — from wherever they are. It’s an ideal option for people who live far from Kalispell, have transportation limitations, or need the flexibility of remote care.

Yes. BIG SKY Treatment is licensed by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) and accredited by The Joint Commission, the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA), and LegitScript, ensuring trust in our high standards of care. These accreditations apply to both our in-person Kalispell programs and our Virtual IOP services.

Cross-addiction involves developing an addiction to a new substance after already being addicted to another, while co-occurring disorders, also known as dual diagnosis, refer to having a substance use disorder alongside a mental health condition, like anxiety or depression, which needs concurrent treatment.
