Most outpatient programs treat addiction and mental health separately. We don’t. Every program at BIG SKY is built around dual diagnosis from day one, because anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma are usually part of what’s driving the substance use, not a separate problem to address later.
Everything we do is also trauma-informed. That means we start by asking what happened to you, not what’s wrong with you. It changes how treatment feels from the inside.
What’s genuinely rare is our Experiential Therapy Program. Equine therapy, wilderness therapy, art therapy, and music therapy are built into the IOP as core clinical work, not optional extras. Montana’s landscape makes this possible in a way that most outpatient programs simply can’t offer.

You live at home throughout. A typical week in our Intensive Outpatient Program includes individual therapy, group sessions, and skills-based work scheduled around your job, your family, and your daily life.
Clinically, you will work with CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Motivational Interviewing. If you are at our Kalispell location, Experiential Therapy including equine, wilderness, art, and music is part of the core program too.
The first week is mostly orientation and assessment. Most people say the early weeks feel like a lot, and then they start to feel like a foundation.

It depends on where you are in your recovery and how much support you need day to day.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is for people who need structured, frequent clinical support with multiple sessions per week while still living at home and managing daily responsibilities. It works well for moderate to severe substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, or anyone stepping down from a higher level of care.
Our standard Outpatient Program is less intensive with fewer sessions per week. It’s a good fit for people with milder substance use concerns, strong support systems at home, or those who have completed IOP and are moving into longer-term maintenance.
Both programs are built around the same trauma-informed, dual diagnosis framework. The difference is frequency and intensity, not quality of care.

Yes. Our Adolescent Outpatient Program serves teens ages 13 and older dealing with substance use disorders, mental health challenges, or both. We don’t apply adult treatment to teenagers. It’s the same clinical program we run in person, delivered through a secure telehealth platform. Individual therapy, group sessions, family involvement, dual diagnosis care. Same framework. Same standard of care.
